The Day

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The subcontinent of Bharat has etched its mark on earth as tall as the Himalayas of the north and as rich as the western ghats. Yet, what this land is most renowned for is its pluralism. The whole idea of this nation revolves around the diversity forced upon us by the invaders yet celebrated to be the fabric of Bharat or as it suits the most, the gist of India. The destruction of thousands of temples and systematic change in the demographics by the Mughals left this country a very little knowledge of their cultural past, but, it survived nevertheless. Then came the British who slammed this nation with their own set of lies of racial supremacy and divisive politics. But the most unfortunate thing that has happened to this nation is that when it was free to do according to its own will, the leaders of this nation chose to imitate their oppressor rather than tendering the damaged feathers of this golden bird yearning for restoration.

When Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee gave the slogan of “Ek Desh, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan“ to take the first step toward unification and restoration, little did he know it will cost him his life, and several decades after, there will come a day when this fundamentally biased and appeasing article 370 which outlived its need as a temporary clause to a demarcation that separated the crown of India from her beautiful body will be scrapped.

On the 5th of August 2019 amidst the kerfuffle of the opposition shouting tooth and nail to save themselves from the brink of extinction, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah proposed the abrogation of articles 370 and 35(A) which was eventually passed with a majority of votes. Article 370 which was incorporated in the constitution as a temporary clause remained in the margins of national politics, but powered the separatist intentions of local parties of Kashmir. Not only did this abrogation pay a tribute to Dr. Mukherjee by unifying the paradise as two separate union territories but also laid the symbolic foundation of Bharat.

The Supreme Court of India gave its brave and historic verdict on November 9, 2019, that the land in Ayodhya belongs to Lord Ram. This solidified the symbolic foundation and literally laid the brick by adding another chapter dated the 5th of August 2020. Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi performed the Bhoomipoojan of the pious land of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya. The entire country watched this ceremony and India was lit up with Diya’s so bright it appeared that Diwali was early. Every Indian was filled with joy and cried Jai Shree Ram with watery eyes.

The collective conscience of India that once hesitated to dream big about restoring the glorious past was now seeing light at the end of the tunnel with the tunnel itself reverberated with the chants of “Ayodhya to abhi Jhanki hai, Kashi Mathura Baki hai”. Let’s hope we keep on adding new chapters in this book and a flamboyant building emerges on the foundation that has been laid.

Jai Shree Ram
